United Benefice Harvest Supper

On Friday, October 10th, the United Benefice Harvest Supper was held in the hall at the Feering Community Centre.  It was well attended by people from both Kelvedon and Feering.

The evening started with a 'welcome' drink of sherry or fruit juice.  As people arrived and settled at the attractively laid tables, there was entertainment by the music group assembled by Greg Waters, the new head at Feering Primary School.

The food for the supper had been made by the organising committee and their volunteer helpers.  The Community Centre kitchen buzzed with activity - shepherd's and cottage pies were heated in the ovens, and the spectacular array of puddings was arranged into a mouth-watering display to follow.

People had been asked to bring their own drinks and glasses and soon there was a convivial hum of conversation filling the hall.  It was good to see a number of 'new faces' who had come with friends to enjoy the evening in company with a complete spectrum of age range.  The youngest member was around two years old and already sociably inclined - he visited adjoining tables with his sister in a very friendly fashion.

After the main dishes, further musical entertainment was provided by an augmented choir.  Coffee and 'after dinner' mints circulated and people moved around, chatting to friends at other tables.

Many willing hands helped to wash dishes and clear up at the end of a most enjoyable evening.  Numerous waist-lines may have suffered afterwards when the surplus puddings were taken back to share with families and friends over the weekend!

Many thanks are due to the organisers and all who contributed in different ways to make this a most successful joint celebration of Harvest Time.
